For whatever reason, the climate fight is on my mind. So in the interest of clearing the air for my videography business in a green state, I offer a few thoughts on the Biden Climate Agenda.
My main criticism is that the Administration seems more intent on using the issue as a way to reward political supporters and special interests, than truly working on solving the problem. We can't spend our way out of the climate crisis, particularly given other domestic needs. We don't have enough money and inflation is a growing concern now, to say the least. It is really a worldwide problem, and more a regulatory issue, than a spending issue. The United States has a huge amount of leverage over China and Asia that it is not currently using in any significant way (i.e. trade, imports, COVID origins, human rights). Forcing the US market to abide by a regulatory regime without putting similar pressure on China and Asia, only serves to benefit our competitors and all the green material manufacturers abroad, particularly China. So my question is why is the Biden Administration doing nothing to push for a stronger worldwide regulatory regime? Which could work to our advantage on other issues as well and demonstrate real US leadership on a worldwide issue. My belief here is that Biden is compromised by China, due to his family's past and current business dealings, and wants to appease the corporate elites who curry favor with China to try to get preferred access to the Chinese markets (most often unsuccessfully). Interestingly, despite such pandering the American film and entertainment industry continues to be locked out of the Chinese market, with US films only having a single digit market share. This has created a real and growing opening in Hollywood and the US. entertainment industry to buck the trend in the rest of corporate America. I'll leave it there for now. I encourage folks who care about climate change and other issues to debate these issues in a substantive way, from a broader perspective, and not just toe the establishment line. Our system of democracy, was founded on belief and principles of having an open an honest debate, where everyone is allowed to participate. Unfortunately, many of the current policies cannot be defended, when compared with the alternatives, which is why the only way to continue the existing policies is to silence and de-platform alternative spokespersons and their expressions of free speech. This is just one aspect of a battle I feel like I have been fighting alone with my back to the wall for many years. Fortunately, now I'm no longer fighting alone, and I am now grateful to have the opportunity to train others how to fight with me. And that is how we'll win achieve real change in the long run. Almost, needless to say, this issue is not something I'm focused on at the moment, but because there is little division between business and politics in my life, I'll offer this brief statement as food for thought and a public service announcement as a green business conducting business in the East Bay Area. Have a nice day!
